The Learning Objectives
- Understand the collaborative community of library staff who work with federal information as part of the Federal Depository Library Program.
- Understand the process of identifying, acquiring, disseminating, and preserving federal information products and resources.
- Research and review technical services processes for federal publications in depository libraries with an emphasis on unique materials held in the University of Washington Libraries.
- Learn to use the online Catalog of US Government Publications (CGP), its predecessor, the Monthly Catalog of United States Government Publications (MOCAT), and OCLC to identify material distributed to FDLs.
- Learn mapping techniques that allows comparisons of collections between the library's federal publications records and official GPO sources, the CGP and the MOCAT.
The final reports provided an overview of the University of Washington Libraries collection and advice for continuing the project. These documents contain about 75 pages of text and images and will be used to design a national directed fieldwork program. Selections from the documents are posted on this site as examples of the work completed during the course of this project.
